KONTAN.CO.ID - WASHINGTON. US labor costs surged by the most in 21 years in the first quarter, pointing to rising wage inflation and supporting the Federal Reserve's aggressive monetary policy stance.
The Employment Cost Index (ECI), the broadest measure of labor costs, jumped 1,4% last quarter after advancing 1,0% in the October-December period, the Labor Department said on Friday. Last quarter's increase was the largest since the current series started in 2001.
