Groundbreaking of Nickel Smelter, Indonesia Confirms Downstreaming Continues

KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita inaugurated the groundbreaking of PT Mitra Murni Perkasa's nickel smelter industry in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Monday (11/9). This is a form of the government's active efforts to encourage the downstream of the industry in order to increase the added value of mineral raw materials domestically.
As an illustration, the increase in added value from processing nickel ore into nickel matte is 14 times, if it becomes pure nickel raw material for batteries it can reach 19 times, and if it becomes a precursor it will reach 340 times.
